cub cadet 1572 hydrostatic leak fix

My recently acquired cub has a leak on the side of the hydro unit. It appears to be coming from where the trunnion shaft enters the trans on the right side. I know I am going to have to pull the trans to fix this, but is this as simple as removing the retaining ring and washer, pulling the trunnion shaft out (however that happens), and replacing the seal? Since I can't see the side of the trans very well, I am making the assumption that the retaining ring is some sort of snap ring and is reusable.

Anything I am overlooking?

NOPE....This is not going to be easy. The Hydro Unit will have to come out of the tractor and be opened up. Once opened up, then the you have to dismantle the Swash Plate Mechanism. Once you have accomplished this, then the Trunion Shaft can be removed, then the seal replacement can be done.

R Bedell has hit the nail on the head. Just did mine as it was leaking in the same place. All new seals, hytrans, filter and complete adjustment. Man is it nice now, mine was for a 1282.

well boo.

I wish I would have seen this before now. I have the hydro out, but I don"t have the time or clean space to open it up at the moment. I guess I"ll be putting it back in and running it as is until sometime this winter.

At least having it out gave me a chance to clean it really well.
