according to arcives cadets used gears and rear ends from cub tractors. at what year did international stop using this setup and change to a different one? i'm sure there is a international fan out there that can answer this question. thanks larry

Cub Cadet used the Cast Iron rear end (as seen on IH Cubs) from 1960 - 1980 when they sold out to CCC/MTD. CCC used the left over stock for a short period of time.

The 1200 -- 1250 Models were about the last of the IH made Cub Cadets. The year was about 1980. When MTD moved the factory and all of IH parts were used up, the quality started going down. Go to tractor data.com and look up model by model. There is a lot of good information there. Ed
PS Had a MTD mower several years ago. When the reeves drive got some time on it, it could take off. Going down hill could be an adventure.

r bedell you said they used the same rear end and trans. from 1960 to 1980.was this the same rear end and gears they used in the cub from 1948 thru 1959? trying to determine how many years the gears interchange. thanks larry

Red Ih. The gearing was a little different I think but dont quote me on it.
Ed. The last IH cub cadet with the cast iron transmission was a 782.

RedIH:

I can't say. I am not into Farmall Cubs. One would have to look up the part numbers for each tractor and compare.

The last production models that used the Cast Iron rear end was the 82 series.

CCC used the Cast Iron rear ends on tractors with Serial Numbers 700,001 to 719,999.

Just so you know, farmall cubs used different tooth count first gears. I don't know the tooth count, or when the change occurred. You just need to know which you need if you are looking for gears.

I changed first gear in Daddy's cub once. That is how I know you need to know which tooth count you need.

The first gear tooth count was the same for all, 13. The second gear was different, Cub tractor, Origional Cub Cadet and 70-100 had the 16 tooth gear. 71-128 had 19 tooth count and 800-1200 & 582-1806 had 17 tooth count-all interchangeable. Third gear was 26 tooth.

l would like to thank all of you on this forum. the reason for this search is because my son has a 184 lowboy with a noisy gear train and i was going to pick up an old cubcadet and change the gears if this is possible. larry

While MTD did switch to an aluminum housing - aren't the gears and most everything else the same as the cast iron housing?
