Cub head torque

(quoted from post at 17:44:50 04/04/21) So the I-T manual says 45FT/LBS is that correct?? Seem a bit low but then again i is not a big engine by any means or high compression.

Thanks

What size bolts do the use? BN uses 1/2 studs at 65 ft./lbs.

Dunno what engine size or compresson has to do with it, the 251231R1 bolts are only 3/8" and 45 foot pounds is WAY at top end of suggested torque for 3/8" bolts, they must be Grade 8 or equivalent!

Since it is Easter I will say Holy, figure out your bolt size , then look up a chart it will tell you. Then compare to manual. If its not pouring atf down your muffler you are lost. Very simple thing here . Nothing hard. It can even be a feel thing if you have wrench experience.

I've asked you nicely to not answer my post please do so.

I ask this because the I-T manual for the A,B,BN call for less then the new torque spec so want to make sure.

As for the ATF cheap move on your part

Expect us to read minds , post the bolt size. I dont work on tonka toys , but its nothing I cant figure out.

I've noticed and that is why i have asked he not to answer my post I know I sure will not answer hie unless he has attacked me again which he did and probably did twice

The Farmall Cub Service Manual (GSS-1007) says there are 15 bolts that are 3/8 diameter with a tension value of 40-50 ft. lb.

Later in the manual it says 45-50 ft. lb. and gives the tightening sequence.

(quoted from post at 20:58:35 04/04/21) I do not see that in the I-T manual I have

I&T manuals have good points (main one to me is they are better than not having any manual) but they are not OEM manuals and often have missing bits of info, like this. To me they are abbreviated versions of the OEM manuals and generally lump several models together, which may be part of the reasons for missing info. Just my experience, others may differ.

Why is it that I ask a simple questions as to if what is in the manual is correct and out of all who answer none can say YES other then one person?? Why bother answering unless you can do so with a CORRECT answer?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Sorry if my answer offended you. You could have said Thank You to brooktre for the info direct from the Cub Service Manual, instead of replying "I do not see that in the I-T manual I have". I was replying to that response, not your original question. When I read that, I interpreted that as you were doubting his info, because it was not in the aftermarket manual you were looking at. If that was not your intent, we both could/would have responded differently. Different interpretations of the same written words. Good luck with your Cub.

45 lbs is fine. My wife's purple cub has been run many hours since we freed the valves and replaced head gasket. We didn't use copper spray on it. And we didn't use new head bolts...... And after a couple hours of running the head bolts were still at 45 lbs. Life is good!

Why, because this is America and it is an online forum. "Freedom of speech" at its best. People are free to reply because they think they know the answer even though they don't. People are free to reply to intentionally mislead you.

Yes, 45ft-lbs is the correct torque. The Cub head has 15 3/8" diameter head bolts. For one thing the bolts won't take much more than that. For another thing they don't need to be that tight with that many bolts holding down such a tiny head.

The C113, C123 only have 9 bolts holding things down. They are also much larger in diameter and can withstand more torque.

I have had the heads of both types of engine.

I was not doubting his info I was trying to double check that the I- manual was correct since I know for the A/B it is not but since your on the modern side thing come up oddly on classic
