Cub wheel weight question.

Growing up I remember my father (an IH salesperson) saying that Cubs (and A's) were supposed to have a wheel weight on the right side. I have 2 cubs; one came with weights on both wheels and the other had none. Should I put one weight on each or both on my cultivator Cub? Thanks.

For cultivating you really shouldn't need weights. No need to compact the soil any more. For plowing and disking you probably need them. We always had one cub to plow and disk with wheel weights and fluid filled tires, one to cultivate,no weights and one for mowing, again no weights. For what it's worth cultivating should just skim along under the surface, not deep heavy plowing 😔

I've seen plenty without the weights. Guess it would depend on your terrain, if it's flat or hilly & if you really need the extra weight.

Or if you are just putzing around, do as you wish.

IIRC, with the "A's", at least, as they left the factory there was a heavy cast wheel center in the outboard (RH) side and a stamped steel wheel center on the LH side. Is my memory correct on that?

Yes. The idea was to compensate for the offset, it did. More weights do help heavier tillage but not needed for most garden/yard work. jim

The extra weight cast center on the right side was to help counter the tendency to overturn to the narrow, left side. This was a must-have on side slopes, especially if you were operating with the left side to the down-slope.

No. Wheel weights only need to be installed in matched pairs.

It's not necessary on a Cub because the operator provides adequate counterbalance.

On an A, Super A, etc., the right hand wheel center is a heavy cast unit while the left is a stamped steel to provide the counterbalance.

I know on a A, they have a thicker wheel on the right side, to compensate for the offset. I don’t know if the Cub does too.

Them cultivision tractors had a heavy weight on the right to hold the tractor down. Pretty much a factory deal. So safety first and keep it that way.

Cub didn’t what ??
Didn't have a heavy wheel disk on the right side like most of the A/Super A/100/130/140.

The heavy right wheel disk was added to the A within the first couple years of production. It continued to be built that way through the last 140. It added about 150 pounds to the right side, virtually the same as adding a wheel weight to that side. The Cubs all had a stamped steel disk on both sides.

Geeze...you said cultivision tractors had a heavy weight on one side to hold them down......the cub never came with a heavy right side wheel center...... The A ,super A ,100,130,140..... All did 😵‍💫😒
Re- Read my post , I said heavy wheel weight. Never said they had the heavy hub.
