current scrap prices

Well I have been offered a number of gvi's(95's) and a U at scrap prices. The scrapper is stating he is getting 200$/ton for tractors hauled into the scrapping yard. This makes these tractors way over what I am willing to pay. Is this the going rate or is he correct.

when scrap prices approach $1000 for a dead tractor I am out.
This is going to decrease the number of tractors laying around.

I belive buying at todays scrap prices and selling at tomorrows prices is a good investment i have 10 mm's i bough and used 6are worth more for scrap than I paid for now better than stock market

It's very hard for the collector to compete with todays scrap prices. I know that parting a tractor out and selling it by pieces can fetch more than the tractor alone. And the more the old tractors are scraped makes the ones left more valuable, but harder to restore or fix up. I felt this first hand. A salvage yard in Wayland MI crushed all the Molines and sold for scrap. Ebay seams to be my salvage source for most of my parts now. But if you have a collector tractor let us collectors have first chance before the crusher. Thanks Roger

scrap in around st louis missouri is $225 a ton is the 95 massey in good shape looking to find one to put a 800 hd in

Iv thought about buying some out of scrapyards but at .30 cents a pound makes them higher than buying running ones. Espically when they docked seller for tires and youre paying for them.

yes the 95 looked very good. The engine was not locked and looked like it would be a runner. It as well as a propane and another gvi diesel are all scrapped now. He came back when the u was going to be crushed and made deal for $500. It is a solid block with really good tin and is not stuck. One bad back tire.

so it looks as if I saved one from becoming a tin can or a bridge.
It will join my mm gvi and gtb.
now over 45 tractors in my shop and yard.

so many tractors so little time.

Only a days difference and now they are gone from your first post to the follow up. WOW they must be hard up for money. Seems a little fishy now is all I am saying!

Yes Kevin
He was putting the pressure on me. Buy today or scrap tomorrow. I did buy a oliver super 55 from him the first day. I think he did not make out as good as he thought and did give me more time on the uts.

It would be kinda nice on a just small bit more of an advance notice and near a holiday to get these things saved. As for I would have driven a little for a deal such as this. Especially if we knew where this took place and could have a bunch of us call him. Then maybe he wouldn't have been so gunny on the crusher.

Where are you located? Id sure be interested in a 95 or 95 Super at those prices. Also any MFWD parts out of a GVI or 704.

Thanks and Merry Christmas

Jake

Hi Kevin
If you look at the original posting it was asking what everyone's experience with scrap prices. I knew his time line was very fast and the likelihood of saving any of those tractors was nil.

I live in the lethbridge area of southern alberta. I do run into larger tractors like these that I cannot tow with my trailer and I cannot buy them.

If anyone is interested in old mini's in this area let me know and I will forward info about any that I run into.

I do know a local guy who is parting out a few gvi's and 95's.

Hi George,

We'll have to keep in touch. I'm not set up to haul the bigger tractors yet, but hope to be by mid-summer. Try to save a few minnies from a bad end. (or even other colors, for that matter)

By the way, where in the Lethbridge area are you? I have a lot of friends and relatives in the Granum and Fort Macleod areas. I visit down there a few times every year. More often if I end up moving to Black Diamond in the new year.

Scrap prices in Texas are currently around $110/ton. Sure wish they would think twice before scrapping our heritage and at least put them on ebay a couple of times. It makes me sick to see them in a scrap yard. We have currently saved 40+ and still have about 65 acres to go. lol.
