If you are trying to figger out, whether its a series one or two, answer these four questions.
Is the muffler round, or oval?
Is the hole in the hood, for the muffler round, or oval?
Does the hi/low shift lever have a thumb guard, in front, and to the outside edge, around the actuating button?
What is the over-all width of the front of the tractor, from side rail, to side rail?(at the 3 bolt holes along the flat rail.)
Not always the correct determining method, but sometimes battery acid makes reading that serial # hard to do.

Dave, is there any dimensional difference side rail to side rail? I ask as we swapped the grill of a series one (2616) with a series two (14602) no problems at all. ( though the bolt pattern on the grills where different, both had the needed holes in frame for the swap to go off easy)
Is 9001 one of the numbers given for the switch from s1 to s2?

And sorry about double posting earlier, I like using the iPad to view and post on the form, but if I'm not careful it double posts easy.

I'd have to do some looking up, on the serial numbers, and ignore the question about rail width, I think I forgot, that that only applies, to determine differences, between D14's, and D15's. 15's are about 2" wider, than 14's, no matter what series.
