I'm almost sure our D 19 is sucking air somewhere in the hyd system. I have an I&T manual but they are pretty vague on which is the suction. Can anyone help. I've had the pump gone thru changed the filter numerous times.

The suction line will be the larger of the two lines on a externally mounted pump.

Not sure on a D19, but most suction lines will have one or more short pieces of hose for connections. Typically, these will be held in place with ordinary hose clamps.....
which may also be the source of air getting into the system.

The pressure side of a pump will typically have flared fittings.

This sounds like the same kind of problem that I had with a cutomer that was pulling a 7000 Deere planter behind his D19. He could pick the planterup, lower the planter and when he tried to pick the planter up the second time it would start to raise and then quit. What was happening was that when he dropped the planter, the low volume hydraulic pump in the D19 would not fill the rod side of the ram with oil before he released his control lever. This would cause a vacuum in the rod side of the cylinder and suck in air past the rod seal. When he started to raise the planter, the air in the rod side would be pushed out through the return line into the bottom of the sump and cause the pump to lose its prime. The cure was to move the return line from the botom cover of the sump to a higher plug on the side of the sump housing. If this is what is happening to you, then moving the return line to a higher plug on the housing should solve your problem. I hope that this will help you and let us know what happens. Gordon
