D@%* Generator, Need Help

The generator on our John Deere 630 is getting to be a pain in the you know what. I can't figure it out and the generator shop can't figure it out. What it is is this: When the generator is running, it will charge, but as soon as you stop the motor, it will start drawing power off the battery and try to spin like an electric motor. However, if you unhook the battery and rehook it, it will reset itself, only to do the same thing when you restart the generator. We've tried two different regulators, and its done the same thing with both of them. Have we not done something right, or is there something wrong. Please help, and thank you for any replies.

Git ya a new voltage regulator,points are sticking shut,gen is ok.When points stick current goes back to gen and runs it as a motor. Later Hoss

well, its got to be voltage reg cut-out contacts sticking i would think--but 2? -be sure you are polorizing correctly,chk. for correct wiring.

Rite on Hoss must have it wired wrong he is motorizing the gen.

You could be running a positive regulator on a negative generator or vice versa. Causing the points to stick.

hey Joshua, if y'all cant figure it out there is a guy my way that can help he does it all the time been in the business sense he was a kid his father owned the business so he knows alot about those gennys. 12 or 24 volt? you say you changed the reg. was it a deere or after market? that may be a problem as sometimes they get it wrong on the reg. at the parts store.or mfgr.

You could wire in a diode to prevent feedback. Are You sure you have the right polality regulator? Is is set up for positive or negetive ground? It is ovious that the cutout is sticking shut.

If the gen shop can't figure it out.. ask them to fire the 13yr old that is running the place or find a new shop.. no rocket science to see that your generator is trying to moto cause the cutout wasn't poping open...
