As some of you may remember, I have a pretty bad rusted rim on my H, and the other one is none too pretty either. I knew a guy with a pair of really nice show wheels with pretty new Goodyear tires on it. He wanted $500 for the set. I was trying to get ahold of him to tell him I wanted them, and to just give me a little time to get the money together.

Well, today I finally spoke to him, and he decided he wanted to keep them for some unknown future use.

So, now I have to figure out what I'm going to do. I need 2 new rims and 2 new tires. This isn't going to be cheap.

Should I try the junkyard, or stick to something new for rims? As far as tires, I guess I'll just start bargain hunting.

:?

Mike, I'm looking for the exact same thing here in Wisconsin. Have an excellent running H, but the rear rims have finally given out to rust, so the tubes are shot and tires are probably not worth remounting. I have been watching Ebay, but nothing so far in my area has come up. Good luck! Aaron

Take a look at the link below. Definitely some good prices, however I emailed them trying to get some prices including shipping on some fronts and neither size I wanted was available (no surprise they had some higher priced ones). So dont be surprised if you dont find out the ones on the web page are not available, but they can sell you some at a higher price. I call that bait and switch, but maybe others have had better luck with this place.

Mike, don't limit your search for rims to just IH letter series stuff. Case & JD also used the same rims. I've exchanged rims & tires between my SC Cases & my H's so many times that I don't even know which rim came on which tractor originally. My friend has a B JD that he's got rims from an H on, & they are the same as the ones that he took off. Your H won't care if the rims came off some other brand if you don't. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

You should post a picture of the rims and let us evaluate them. I assume you have privileges at the base hobby shops. You or a buddy might be able to fix them.

mike, i bought 2 new rims for one of my m's from f.s......farm service. they were around 175.00 each. add new tires and tubes, you are close to a grand. how bad are the old rims?? maybe they can be welded up.

I ran the photos in early August and the unanomous opinion was to replace them. The pictures don't do the rough, rusted texture justice. They are pretty rough, like they painted over the rust without doing any prep.

Mike,

I have 2 used rims that are in real good shape. They are 11 x 38 and came off a JD A. Not sure if they'd work but I thought someone said they would interchange between a JD A and Farmall H and M. I'd take $180 for the pair plus shipping. Let me know if you're interested or want to see pics of them.

I sure wish I lived close enough to buy those tires. They look great, and a lot better than what I'm running in the field every day.

Repairing rims is based on how you value your time. You can do a LOT of cutting, welding, and grinding, then Bondo the exterior pits, in ten hours (maybe five evenings, 2 hr each). I've repaired lots of rims. It helps to have a bad one to cut good secitons out of, and they are really cheap to find. Let's say you get 30 hours into an old rim and make it look good enough you want to use it. At $175 for a new rim, you're still making almost $6 per hour (those are good wages for restoring tractors). If you get done in 10 hours it's $17.50 per hour.

This does not include shipping, which can be a little painful as well.

If you don't want to do the work, good used rims will always have some defects.

When I changed tire on my H, there was yellow paint inside the rims. Not sure if that was from rim company or the rims were on a JD at one point.
