I have a d17 diesel wanting to know what the energy cells are for and what they do now other problem is i cant get the tractor to rev up rpms changed the fuel pump have plenty of fuel tractor runs perfect idling but when i move throtle smokes like geting to much fuel any ideas would be helpfull i am at a loss what to do anymore

Also, check the vanes on the lift pump, made of carbon, as they age, they wear. You can bypass with a electric fuel pump of around 40 psi, to the fuel inlet of the injector pump, to diagnose.

the fuel cell or energy cell,is where the fuel gets burned. also know as the pre-combustion chamber. the injector sprays the fuel into the chamber. you may have clean your fuel cells.
they can become full of carbon from a poor injetor spray .
You may have a problem with your fuel lift pump that is built in on the injector pump there is a fine screen filter at the inlet line that may be dirty.

thanks for all of the help i figured it out if anybody else has the same problem this is what i did i checked the energy cells and they were good and cleand them in the process had to remove the intake and exhaust reinstalld the cells just for the heck of it i tryd to start without manaifolds and tractor revd up like it should so i looked inside muffler and it was pluged with carbon removed muffler installd the intake and exhust manafolds and the tractor ran awsum so all that work taken apart 3 times and muffler and exhaust manifold was plugd lesson learnd thank you to all the comments

While rare, carbon fouling such as this can happen, in a tractor, my concern would be why? Make sure you don't have an obstructed air cleaner, or something sucked up inside the intake pipe, restricting flow.
