d17 head and manifold

I heard that a d17 manifold will work on a wd engine, but do i need to, or can i use the d17 head.

The d 17 intake usuallt flows a little better than a wd intake unless you have a aftermarket like a johnson lp . the heads i have checked flow the same but some of the early wc heads dont flow as well . so if you have a latter model wc wd head i would spend the money it takes to purchase a 4 inch head and spend it on making my 3 inch head better than the stock 4inch. just my opinion.

The heads all have no combustion chamber so stay with a dished piston. But sometime they changed the flow of water and elimated the hotspots in the head, so I would recomend the thick head, Especially for high compression ratios. The biggest think is a good carb. Motec did ours(he advertises in the hook) 30% more cfm. Also port match the manafold to the head. We had a local speed shop flow the head and manafold and roll pin them together. Best money we spent.

Micth i have a 4" and a 3" head in your opinion the 4" is better than the 3"?

As vic said the 4 will hold more water so if you think youre gona have a tendancy to run hot then the four is the one to build . If you want to run alot of cam lift which needs more than 90lbs seat pressure and you dont want to buy after market rocker arm stands then the three inch is one to consider. In fact i done my first four inch head this summer for the water reason the block is totally dry on this new build before then i ran the three inch head .

If you like them stay with a dished piston . The gas that gets traped between the piston and cylinder wall cause the first ring is so far down on the dished pistons only gets burned when its pumped into the exhaust.
