D17 Motor Seized

I have a D17 that hasn't ran for 3yrs and the motor has seized. The tractor has been covered up and outside in the winter once (covered). The rest of the time its been inside. Have dumped oil in the cylinders and valves trying to free the motor. Any ideas? I don't really want to tear the motor down, but just might have to....

What kind of oil did you dump in? If motor oil, that is not likely to free it. ATF may very well work. Dump up to a cupful through the spark plug hole. Wait a few days. Pull the dipstick and look for a red tinge at the top of the oil on the stick- then you know it has gone past the rings, into the sump. Better to pull the valve cover and loosen the rocker arms if you intend to pull the tractor to loosen the pistons- otherwise things bend/break.

Oil will stop the rust problem which is what locked it up in the first place but it doesn't work well to unlock an engine. If you can blow or wick the oil out of the cylinders then fill with tranny fluid and let it sit a few days. Then put a 12 volt battery in and use short fast taps on the starter and if you can watch the crank pulley for movement. Be sure to put the plug back in when sitting to keep dirt etc out and when you try to turn it over pull the plugs out to prevent hyd lock in the cylinders. Also stand clear of the spark plug side when you try to turn it over or you may end up with a tranny fluid shower. BTDT and while it doesn't hurt you unless you get it in your eyes its still not fun to get covered in tranny fluid

I just put in reg 30. I didn"t think about trans fluid or pulling it. Pulling might be the very last thing I try.. I will give the trans fluid a try... Thanks
