D17 Positive ground lights.

Tring to get the lights to work on my 17 and don't know how to chek if light's or bulb's are bad with positive ground.So far i have no lights.

Ground polarity makes no difference in this instance. The wires to the switch are "hot". The bulbs ground through the housings. With the switch on, you should have battery voltage to 1 wire.

A light bulb works the same no matter how the machine is grounded You need to get past the + ground thing in your mind which is where the problem in your testing them is. You test them the same way you would if it where - ground. If you have a meter pull the bulb out and check for and open on the ohms scale of the meter

Often on old tractors, a cause of lights not working is a poor ground ALWAYS CHECK THAT FIRST. Its easy to test the bulbs with a simple continuity tester or an ohm meter, the filament must have continuity and if not (an open) its burned out. A simple 6/12 test light on the input wiring to the lights can verify if the switch and wiring is is good cuz when its turned on there must be hot voltage with respect to frame ground. Of course, all this remains true regardless of which battery post (Pos or Neg) is atatched to teh tractors frame/ground.

There should be only one wire going to the light. After checking the bulb, turn on the light switch and check for voltage from that wire to the positive side of the battery. If you have voltage there, your ground between the light socket and the tractor is broken. If no voltage on the wire, follow it back, checking for a break in the wire or a bad switch.
