Is there any dairy farmers that visit this site? If so please tell what state and how many cows you have. Im a dairy farmer and im just curious.

I am in northwestern North Carolina. I keep about 40 cows plus 30 or so heifers for replacements. Average herd size in NC is nearing 200 cows.

odbiously by my screen name I live in minnesota and we have around 70 milking and about 50 heifers and about 30 young calves.

Family farm in northeast corner of TN. Milk about 60 - 80 depending on the time of year. Milking about 65 right now with several turned dry lately. Have about 20 heifers that will begin calving this month. Another 20 or so in the spring and about another 30 to 40 ranging in age from wiened to breeding age. Feeding 10 calves on replacer right now will go to about 20 or so soon. Started chopping silage earlier this week, sure makes for long days. Put new injectors in the IH 5288 and a straight pipe instead of a muffler. Made a difference when she hits the corn. I guess this is more info than wanted but anyway.

Used to be a dairy farmer in northern Victoria, but ten years of worst drought in recorded history has wiped out 2 thirds of the industry. I milked 135 holstein, jersey and brown swiss on 45 effective hectares, (flood irrigation country here and no allocation for years.) I'm a welder now and glad to be off the farm!

Butch from Wisconsin,

Herdsman on a 1000 cow dairy (1250 milking and dry) 1200 heifers no males over 5 days of age on the farm. We're located near Waupun WI.

Dairy Farm Consultant from Northampton County, PA. Just started my own grazing dairy farm, plan is to milk about 24 or so.

From South Western NY, I'm 31 my wife and I milk between 40-60 jerseys and Holsteins. We also have about 30 head of young stock. We use rotational grazing 6 months out of the year to feed all the animals. I also drive school bus, do custom harvesting/baling. And run a small tractor and equipment repair shop.

I don't live on a dairy farm any longer but the place down the street from my folks house has 8000 head. There are many around here that big. Ron
