Danuser post driver

I'm looking at an old Danuser PTO post driver
Does anyone know anything about these? How big of post will they drive?

Soilfarmer........I have one on my 8N with frontmount hydraulic pump. (the internal weaksister hydraulic pump won't power it) Dansuser claims their 8-footer will pound a square 8x8, 3-ft deep. Dunno, I use treated round pointy posts. tip: start the posthole FIRST with a bar twistin'roundy to make a cone-hole to hold the point. Local school district is called "RockyRidge". Pounded posts are so much tighter in the ground than auger'd post hole diggers. ......Dell, head shepherd, RockyRidge SheepStation

How does the driving mechanism work if I wanted to build one of those? I've looked at pictures and it is basically a pile driver. I can't tell how a hydraulic motor picks up and releases the pile. Thanks.

BC.......its hydraulic power up stretching 2-springs. They arn't that strong but are long and stretchy. Its the sudden release of hydraulic lift pressure by the hand operated valve that pulls down 300lbs of pounding power. It takes about 8-"hits" to pound my 7-ft fence posts 2-ft deep in rocky soil. Sure beats idiot sticks diggin' hole, eh? Surprizingly enuff, I have NEVER broke a wooden fence post, but did split a 3"-pipe seam some. ......Dell

Thanks Dell. So there is a hydraulic ram on the backside of the H-beam pushing up on the pounder riding the rails of the beam. What bore and stroke cylinder are you using and what is your pump output psi & gpm? About what weight is the pounding end of things? How long does it take to get one stroke out of the cylinder?

I looked at some on the internet that appear to be a cable lift going to a snatch block at the top of the beam. I can't figure out what pulls the cable and drives the pounder. I'm thinking something like a large pulley on a motor with a cable attached to one end of the pulley or some chain like on a bale elevator that runs over the H-beam with the bale tangs spaced so that one picks up the pounder and as the chain takes the tang over the top of the beam it releases the pounder and then the next tang/catch on the chain catches the pounder again after it hits. I suppose a continuous looped cable belt with a tang or two attached would work.

can I breath some life in to this thread??

I recently purchased a Danuser driver in MINT condition..

I want to use it on my Case 470. Had to change the fittings on the live hydraulics to universal fittings and now that that has been done I hooked it all up.. and nadda, zilch, no movement.

Now I suppose the driver could not work - but the seller said he drove about 120 posts and then put it away.

I also noticed that my bucket would not lift when I connected the driver.
turned off the lines to the bucket - still nadda.

switched connections - nope, that's not it...

What would my next step be

any help appreciated

Stefanie

First - you should probably start a new thread. Most people on the board don't use the modern view like you and I.

Second - You didn't have to switch to universal (pioneer) fittings. You could have just bought adapters.

Third - Switch the hoses around. They might only work one way.
