Give me your expert opinoin on this. If oil blows out the dip stick when pulled out when eng. is up to temp, is this a problem? dosn't push the dip stick out or anything. It is desiel with about 45 hr after total rebuild with 30 or so of that pulling 9' heavey harrow. Also rebuilt the oil pump. Would think the rings are seated. Acording to preasure gauge seem be on high side havn't checked it with another gauge. O the blow by tube is open.
If this is a problem what shoud I check?

First of all peoples description of a total rebuild can vary. To ne a 'total' rebuild consists of new pistons, rings, liners or rebore and larger pistons. Full overhaul of injectors and fuel pumps. New oil pump, reground crank, shells, seals etc and re-bushed conrods. New valves, springs, seats cut or replaced etc.ONLY if this has been done can it be called 'total'.
The engine breather pipe may be clear but make sure that the route through the rocker cover is clear as well. Sometimes there is a gauze or just baffle plates.
Oil is thrown out through the dipstick by excessive crankcase pressure. This pressure normally comes from compression passing the top compression ring. Compression rings do not normally have a correct way of fitting but it would be wise to check with the engine manufacturer's manual. Were the pistons fitted with a piston clamp? It is possible that one or more rings is/are broken. I do not think it is an oil pressure problem.
Was the engine run at idle after rebuild for any length of time? If so it is possible that the bores have become glazed. Were the ring gaps checked before fitting?
These are some questions to think about for the moment. Please let me know what make/model engine it is, EXACTLY what was done to the engine and what make of parts were used?

This is A-248 Perkins in 275 it has the motor balancer with the oil pump on back this I replaced along with all was done you covered except the injectors and fule pump. I saw just a baffel plate I think when the hose was removed.
I can't remeber will have to check on the rebuild kit as a machanic freind got his for me through wholesaler. It was one I have seen recomended on here a number of times just can't seem to remember. He helped me with the rebuild Im trying to get some information Because I guess I will fined out just how good a freind when I tell him I have a problem I need more help with. The tractor was run idel or near for a good amount because after it was worked 5-6 hours it had a lift problem that we worked on for a good while.

Hello Anthony,
One thing that you must check is that the liners that were fitted were 'finished' and not requiring honing after fitting. Many years ago we rebuilt a '248' fitted to a MF 175. I can't quite remember the circumstances but it came back in with excessive smoking. The pistons and liners were top brand but not genuine. The manufacturers even sent a guy down to measure and check everything. We contacted the local Perkins agents and were told immediately to fit a set of Perkins rings "that'll fix it". We did, and it did!
I take it that the blow-back is considerable, hence your message.
If the crank case pressure is excessive you might try slackening the injector pipe nuts one at a time with the engine at idle and listen very carefully for any change of engine sound. It won't cure the problem but it might help you identify which cylinder it is if one is worse than the others.
