DB 1200 selectomatic

It is real simple. There is only on oil for the entire system. Hydraulic oil. Check it with a dip stick in front of the gear shift. There is some 90 weight oil in the reducer gears inside the rear hubs but it it is not leaking out on the wheels, that oil is probably o k. Also the power steering fluid can be checked with a dip stick on the fluid tank. If you just got the tractor, I would recommend you change the filter for the hydraulics. If that oil gets dirty, it can lead to problems. With clean oil, you will not have problems.

You want to make sure the boots on the shifters are in good shape. It is especially critical if the tractor would be out in the rain. Bad boots will allow water to get into the transmission/hydraulic reservoir. If the current oil looks milky, it already is contaminated and you'll want to flush the system.

We used to run engine oil when the tractor was new but had lots of problems in below freezing conditions. We then switched to TCH fluid and had almost no problems. Straight hydraulic oil is generaly not recomended for transmision applications I believe because of extreme pressure when oil is pinched between loaded gears. I run 6 1200s and the one I have on standby in winter (in case a massey gets stuck)I removed the filter from because of sludge building up on the screen.I intend to find a way of putting the magnetic screen in without the filter and I may add a filter on the return from the loader.
