I am looking at a dc case, don't know much about these? It has an eagle hitch and hydraulics, decent tires good sheet metal. Hasnt been run in 2 or 3 years. Not stuck, missing one fender. My question is he is asking $1000 is that a fair price?

I have restored several DC's.

If it is holding antifreeze and the level is above the core, that is a big plus because the cooling system probably does not have rust flakes and the waterpump is not leaking.

If it is holding antifreeze but the level is not above the core, carefully loosten the oil drain plug just enough to allow a drip. If the first drip is oil, that is good. If antifreeze, maybe not so good. Catch the drips until they become oil. How much antifreeze was in the crankcase?

If the antifreeze situation is good, the $1000 is probably a fair price.

Bonus's include---high compression A5505A head casting number. Not a smoker-- prevous owner should know. Has the exhaust been covered? Are there two hyd levers? Is the bottom inside of the fuel tank free of rust flakes? Look in with a penlight in the dark.

Is the clutch brake pad at the pulley shaft still useable? Is the battery support not rusted out?

Is the gen belt useable? Those are hard to replace. Has the block not been repaired behind the intake manifold?

High hours tractors tend to have considerable looseness in the steering wheel shaft bearing and a lot of wobble in the hand clutch and an enlongated drawbar pin hole.

Foot clutch is a bonus as is adjustable wide front. Both are rare.

Are there signs of oil drips below the brakes? Is oil weeping around the head gasket and the valve cover? Is the back end all cruddy with oil and dirt? Any other oil weeps? Does the PTO lever seem to engage with an overcenter firmness? Is the boot around the transmission lever in good condition--needed to keep water out of the transmission?

If the bonus report card is good, you may have a bargin at $1000.
