You need to get an owner's manual for your tractor and read how to adjust the clutch. Beware, there are several different versions depending on the age of your tractor.

I bought a 53 DC - has a wet clutch. worked fine, the more i used it the worse it got. sludge built up in clutch and would not release.. split tractor cleaned, and works like new.im a john deere guy, but wanted a late DC for 20years, it was worth the wait.

Did you remember to drain the oil from the clutch housing when you changed it?

If it is a hand clutch, try letting it run with the tractor in gear but clutch disengaged. Just working the clutch is often the best way to improve how well it works.

You could also just try throttling down the engine before disengaging.

This is my dad's cure from 50 years ago. You'll have to change oil when you're through. Take off the side inspection cove and fill the sump with diesel fuel or kerosene. Put the cover on and start it up let it run for a few minutes and work the clutch. When it frees up dain the oil and replace. Worked for him.

Don't use the fuel oils in your crankcase or even think of running it with this in your crankcase. It's a good way to ruin an engine.
Did you use a detergent type oil? It was common to use non-detergent oil in tractors of this age.
Sounds like you need to adjust clutch and switch back to non-detergent or a fleet type oil.
