Decision on next project...

Here it is, With my 1959 MF65 completed, I do not have a current project. Now, I have two opportunities facing me. There is a rough 49 Chevy not far from here that would make the perfect canidate for restoration. Or a 1951 8N low hours survivor for the exact same money. Would likely need cleaned up, switch to 12v, and a little paint.

Now throw into this dilemma the fact that I already have a restored tractor. I live in suburbia (where they cut down the trees and name streets after "em) and I can"t afford both. I would hate to see that little N go to someone else, but I can"t really justify it either...

What do ya think?

The truck. Rides are more likely to get parent approval. The 8N is an over rated tractor (opinion).
The parking of the truck will enhance the neighborhood, and it goes faster. JimN

Well, to ME, it would depend on exactly what kind of Chevy it was. You already have a tractor, now you need something to haul with. Is the truck a flatbed?

Your neighbor across the drive or very near will have the code police on speed dial if the truck is without a current plate. Voice of experience. Late 40's Chev's trucks are in favor at the present just ask OLD.

Right on. How many times have you see an ad like this?;

Old car/truck. Have $11,000 invested. Will sell for $75.00. Lost interest in it. Wife says get it out NOW!!!!

Not nearly enough! They are usually gone before the ad hits the press! Most I see are "have $75 invested, want $11,000 and if I can't have it then I'll just let her sit right where she is."

What I only have the one 1951 Chev, plus a cab from a 5 window and bits and pieses of what came with the 5 window. The pan was to go get a 1944 Chev today but the guy found out his wife had made plans so I have to wait on it till Friday. I did just pick up a Case SC yesterday which I will need to work on the clutch so I guess I'll not get bored any time soon

The problem you have is why I happy I live where I do. I can have as many projects as I want and never worry about the person next door since by road there a mile away. If things had gone as planned I would have gone and picked up a 1944 Chev today but plans got changed. But I did pick up a 1952 Case SC yesterday

I would go for the truck. Just went to the Custom and Rod show at Glendale Az'z University of Phoenix Collosieum[sp] Friday and saw several real nice 48-52 Ford Trucks but the attention getters were the 41-52 Chevies.Must have been at least a dozen there. Got my attention for sure as I have always been a GM person and especially Chevie. Current ride '05 Chev Impalla 3800 Turbo,Leather[not factory] every thing else optioned it's got it. First car I owned,'57 Chev Bel Air,two door.

Well since hind site is to be 20/20 ? If I would of put all the time and money I did in tractors into some Mopars I'd be a millionaire now ! Oh well at least I don't NEED liscense and insurance to drive my tractors, or even let them sit.

Yep,
got that now, was going to restore a 71 mustang, had a 351 built to put in it, found car too far gone for me, sold it, now I have $5000.00 worth of engine with heads, tranny sitting in shed, wish I could get half my money back, but no such luck yet.

Amen to that, my friend sold a 7/10 '70 Barracuda for 3500 bucks about 12 yeas ago. Couldn'y give the darned thing away. Now It would be worth 10x that...

Chevy is a 1 ton in 4/10 codition with a straight solid body. Not sure about the running gear. Plans include rechassis and repower swap with late model donor vehicle. It is a longbed currently being used as a farm vehicle. No code enforcement or neighborhood assosiation here. Just no out of sight storage, so my stuff has to look good. Plans for the truck are to use it as a cool daily driver.

Cause that 6v cranks so darned slow! And although I would like to keep it original as possible, I need the reliability of a fast crank, hot spark, and available parts...

Wouldn't jump in and do it, only if needed...

Before you ever change one for that reason,try big 2.0 guage battery cables. You loose 2/3 of your AMPERAGE with new small 12v automotive cables. The big ones make a world of difference.
