Feller brought me an old(30 yrs??)gas engine powered combo generator(110/220-3000watt))and starting unit(12V HD"Boost(not charger)for carb cleaning the other day.Wanted to get it tuned up for sale.Simple carb cleaning,got the Tec engine purrin,gennie "Gens good" in all modes.Only real downside is that insulation on 25' booster leads is shot/peeling and entire unit is well"weathered".Says he would take $150 for it.
Hmmmmmm??? Do I want/need it?

I've found that it makes little difference whether I need it/want it. ToysRtoys. I usually buy.

If that unit works and you have any tractors or a couple of pieces of any kind of eguipment, they are worth having around just for the starting end of it. I had a starting machine when I had trucks in the north east and it paid for itself many times in the cold weather and when I was having problems. Having a generator also is a bonus. The price is real good if it all works.

When we had one of those units and the cables pealed we took an old piece of garden hose and ran each cable through a length of hose. Made great insulation and was cheap. It really didn't make the cables that much harder to handle but did take up more space. In fact we used one piece of red and one of green hose.
The unit was priceless when starting things in cold weather. Could use the generator to run block heater and then boost the battery.
It worked so well someone "borrowed" it and didn't return it.

I've used welding cable in similar situations.
