Deck Plate

Hey all:

I've seen places advertise deck plates for engines. What exactly do they do? What do you run for a stroker crank and a set of rods? Who all makes them for deere 6 cylinder diesels? What do you do for o-ringing the cylinder head surface, do you run two gaskets(1 between block/plate and one between plate/head)?

only good reason i know of to use a deck plate is that it puts the stress oad of the bolts being torqued on the block and also holds the deck sqaure while being bored.

It doesn't effect the length of rod or piston u use while stroking or anything like that?

well there are some that are making the deck taller by running a plate. some are even moving the mains down for aditional room. i figured more would have jumped in . i personally dont like deck plates for any other reason than for a ligning the boring bar.

so, what happens when you make the deck taller? Can you stroke the crank using the original (longer) rods rather than switching to shorter ones to increase ci?

Deck Plate serves two purposes, first, it stabilizes blocks that have been bored to the point internal webbing has been lost, it also stabilizes blocks where high boost pressures are encountered, such as 250 lbs. on diesel superstocks. Deck Plate also allows for the use of more correct rod ratios in engines that have added stroke to the crank.
