deere 400 backhoe

I have an older model 400 backhoe. The hydraulics work great will lift machine at idle digs great . Makes no noises or leaks. After machine sits overnight and you restart in morning it takes 3-4 mins before hydraulics work then all is good all day long. There is no abnormal noises in them 3-4 mins. Is this normal or could the oil resvoir be draining down overnight if so how do I fix.

I have owned mine since 1994 and a few minutes is normal in mine for the reverser to work. I had the reverser rebuilt and it still takes a few minutes.

Sounds as if the hyd oil reservoir up by radiator is draining back to sump. I'd suggest checking the "check valve".

Trans pump on JD utility tractors is driven off the pressure plate not the trans input shaft(traction clutch) so depressing clutch won't affect trans pump.

You're correct I wasn't thinking about "with reverser" BUT most operators I've witnessed just use reverser control without depressing clutch pedal.
