hello all,i am new here. i am looking at a 1990 deere model 4255 tractor. it is a one owner complete with cab and a 15-speed powershift. is 2 wheel drive. has 7300 hours on it and seems to run/shift great. talked to original owner no major work ever done to it. water pump replaced 2 years ago and a/c updated to r-134 at that time. he is selling cuz hes retiring says it was his best tractor. dynoed at 145 horse. he is asking 36,000 is this a good price? is this one of deeres better machines? like the styling of the tractor. thanks in advance.

For a ballpark number. One could look online at new JD's of similar specs. Then price on the same site. Figure 21 years of wear & depreciation etc.

wow, that blue book must not be real world. a good 4255 will bring at least 35,000 usually. sometimes alot more. the 55 series bring big money. and yes,it is one of deeres best. those tractors were built to last.

When's the delivery date on your NEW JD tractor???????????? Good luck on 21 yrs service with only a water pump if yours is ever delivered which I doubt.

Buy it! Sounds like it had a good home..and as long as it has,it will be an excellent tractor. Grandpa bought ours new back in 1992. It has been used on all jobs over the years, been very reliable. Has around 10,000 hours on it now,and probably could use a rebuild but still runs good. We had the pump turned up to 155 10 years ago. It's more reliable then our much-newer Deere 7320..sad to say.

55 series JD tractors are some of the best tractors JD ever produced. Their records stand on their own. They also command high resale prices. I have a '91 4255 that I've owned since '93 that has over 10,000 hrs that will probably run longer without mechanical repair than a new JD tractor.

txjim, you are changing the topic again.
The question was what is the price and value of a used 4255. Not the topics of delivery, 21 years and water pumps.

We have a '89 4455 that is excellent. dynoed 166 horsepower last fall. runs very strong and is surprisingly still good on diesel! we are the 2nd owner,we have owned it since '94. it has 5950 original hours and still runs and shifts like it did at 1100 hours. these are long life machines and in my opinion,Deere has made nothing better since. if they started making these again today,i'm sure people would be lining up to buy them! have a good day.

Used high quality machinery is really selling well with the price of other comodities at near highs.Seems about $6000 to high from what I have seen lately.

You changed the subject first from a "used" to "new" tractor!!!!!!!!

Also you still failed to show the delivery date of your new JD tractor that you want everyone else to buy INSTEAD OF A USED ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

txjim. Who brought up the topics of 21 years, delievery and my new JD?

TractorHouse are asking prices and usually are dealer related to allow trades. The true price is whatever the buyer and seller deem to be fair for both. The 55 series is one of Deeres best and sell very well.I would want a few less hours and excellent rubber to give that much.Tx Jim sent one up here for 15K but that was a different story.

Come on buickanddeere 21 yrs, delivery and water pump(FYI driven off timing gears) isn't changing the subject about a 4255 as all these pertain to those models.

On the other hand you trying to persuade prospective used tractor buyers over to buying NEW tractors is changing the subject.

Therefore that was why I asked if you had your new tractor delivery date.

Txjim. Just to quote a few of your off topic ramblings here on the 4255 thread.
Other readers can see that I made no mention of purchasing a new version of the 4255 however you blindly believe so.
Here is a list of your recent off topic fantasies you are smoke screening with.

The reference to a 2011 tractor in the 4255 horsepower & size class was to price only. As a known fixed dollar price to assist in calculation of depreciation or retained value of the 4255.

Thanks for admitting that you referred to a new tractor when someone inquired about a used tractor. That's why I asked if you bought a new tractor yet. ENUF SAID

Can you tell the difference between referring to new cost to assist in calculating the price of used? Vs. suggetsing that somebody purchase new?

I sure can!!!!!!! But would you like to venture a guess how many times when you reply to a post of someone inquiring about a USED tractor you bring up the advantages/price of a NEW tractor??????????????

You purchase a new tractor and I won't bring it up anymore.

It's easier to try and talk someone into spending their own money than to spend your money on a new tractor.

Poor txjim. It's time you took your meds again, a glass of warm milk then take a nap.
Following in quotes is what I wrote. The short simple sentence has nothing to do with purchasing a new tractor or even going to the dealership. I said look at the price of a new tractor on line and figure depreciation. I had assumed the potential buyer would have already been to external_link and found the new list for a 4255.
Since you can find "purchase a new tractor in the following. I hope your perception of reality is not so distorted in other areas of your life.

For a ballpark number. One could look online at new JD's of similar specs. Then price on the same site. Figure 21 years of wear & depreciation etc.

So you're trying to state that everytime you bring up a new JD tractor in a thread that was started on an older used JD you're not trying to persuade the poster to purchase a new JD tractor that you can't seem to find the money or permission to buy for yourself??????????????

txjim. If you read and understood the english Language. And you were not desperately trying to distort the facts. The word "purchase" was not used nor was there anything even resembling the intent.Plus you are "blowing smoke" again.
txjim, I feel sorry for you and on behalf of the other ytmag posters. Does tearing soebody else down, build you up? Please obtain some help to cope with your feelings of loss, loneliness, bitterness and regret over your past, present and future.

How is disagreeing with you tearing you down??????? I understand the English language well enough(FYI it starts with a capitol "E") to know that you have in the past on several occasions suggested/implied that a poster should buy a NEW JD tractor when in fact they were inquiring about a used JD tractor. NO SMOKE SCREEN on my part just FACTS.

You are getting confused between the 4255 post and other post topics. Please see a medical professional who specializes in memory loss and dementia etc.
