Thanks for all the help yesterday. Did a little more digging found that the engine on this generator is a 3 53 found a model number of 5033- 7101 unit number 3d-19074. any idea what the hp rating is? any other info would be cool also

3-53 engines were the smaller version of the 71 series they are prone to loosing the head off of the exhaust valves if run to hard. Shouldn't be a problem on Generator though.
Get a book an learn how to run the rack this is how you setup the injectors. Very important on all Detroit's.

A small point, but important when searching for parts or specs, the 53 series is a totally different animal than the 71 series with no parts interchange between the two engine familys.

I think what Walt means is that the 53 series is a smaller type of the Detroit Diesel 2 cycle engines.

DD built many distinct 2 cycle diesel familys including 51-53-71-92-110-149 series engines. The number indicates the cubic inch displacement of 1 cylinder of a given engine family.

Going from memory here but recall the 3-53 with the 4 valve head is good for around 65 - 70 HP at 2,300 RPM.

At the normal 60 hz generator speed of 1,800 RPM the power will be less. Peak then is probably in the low 50's and continuous rated power in the high 40's.

Since the 2-53 jimmy was rated at 33HP @ the pto in my JD 435, I'll guess that the 3-53 is rated at about 50HP @the pto.

3-53 four valve head, dry aircleaner, large muffler, N series pistons/sleeves & C50 injectors are good for 75HP at 1800rpm with little to no smoke.
Can be wound out to 2800-2900 rpm with the latest valve spring & cam follower spring upgrades.
If rebuilding the blower should be machined & have the new oil seal kit installed.
