Have a set of these bits, work very good till they start getting dull, is there any way to sharpen them, drill dr. doesn"t seem to have any way of doing them. Any answers will be appreciated. Don c

Bought a set way back when they were Black&Decker Bullet Bits and new on the market,Fantastic bits for general and cordless use. When B&D&DeWalt mated"Bullet"became a different type bit and the pilot point bits disappeared for a bit until reappearing as Dewalts.Being relatively inexpensive I've replaced a few abused and badly dulled ones.Only method of sharpening I've found is"dressing" em with a file or Dremel disc. One tip:NEVER use em to resize a hole as it can destroy the"shoulders".I only use em for virgin drilling and use cheaper standard bits for redrilling and brute work.

I'll second that. I attempted to use one of those bits to resize a hole, completely destroyed. I ended up returning them to Home Depot and getting a set of Rigid Cobalt bits, which supposedly have a lifetime warranty. Seem to do well in the limited amount of use they've seen so far.

I don't think they intended for them to be sharpened with that same pilot point. I've tried 135 degree split point bits from 1/8" to 21/32" and they outdrill the pilot points all to heck. Making rear wheel adaptors for my 4020 I drilled 40 holes with that big one in 1/2" steel, no pilot holes, just some cutting oil. No noticeable wear. I used it drilling another 16 holes in 3/4" steel and needed a tiny touch up on the grinder about half way through that job.

Cobalt bits last a long time and can drill the hardest of metals including stainless. I have had some for as long as 25 years. One thing though, they are brittle and do not like to bend sideways. they are the only kinds of bits I will buy. Can be sharpened also

Careful with these bits. They are making them very cheaply these days. A couple weeks ago I purchased a 3/8 dewalt pilot bit that blew the tip to smitherens as soon as I put it to carbon steel. I'd say the bit lasted about .75 sec. Wasn't too happy as it was a replacement bit and it meant not finisihing the job that day and another trip to town.
