Diesel additive

i changed the fuel filter out in the fall on the 3600. and flushed the tank out, filled up with diesel... pulled tap a couple of times. put fresh diesel and a can of BK injector cleaner. used that tank up with no problems. when I tanked up again with fresh diesel my tap got clogged after about half tank used up with a small amount of clear looking gel looking slime. rinsed tank again. put fresh diesel, halfway thru, another small slime on the tap.

that time i went to the machine shop, they recommended power service 'diesel kleen' additive. i mixed it strong the first tankfull, no problems while burning that tankfull. the next tank i only put a small amount of diesel kleen, and halfway thru... more slime. not much but enough to stop up the tap. i could run that stuff double dose all the time i guess, but the exhaust is awful strong, not to mention i'm worried about it doing more harm than good?

is something growing in there? any suggestions?
thanks

You probably got bad diesel and now have algie growing in the tank. This can, and wil,.... goop up the injector pump. An injector cleaner will not kill the algie. You will need a biocide to get rid of it. More importantly you need to find the source of the bad diesel, contaminated diesel, water in diesel. If you dont find the source, treating, flushing , cleaning the tractor tank will do no good. Fix the source!! flush tractor tank, replace filter, add biocide.. change the filter on the next tank of fuel and add more biocide... But you must fix the source of your problem or it will keep coming back. Check for bad fuel cap on tractor or tank letting in water. Drain water separators often. 55 gallons barrels are great sources of bad diesel with water due to verticle storage.

You are getting water in the fuel and algae is growing.
The water could be coming from where you buy the fuel; a leaking tank cap; but most likely it is coming from condensation.
Washing out the tank does no good as the algae just sticks to the side of the tank. Any little bit left in the tank starts the growing process all over again.

Your ONLY out is to kill the algae with a diesel biocide. This will clog the filters up as the algae is killed and run threw the engine so be prepared to change the fuel filters several times.

If you keep having problems after treating with a biocide find a differant fuel supplier.

If you don't use the tractor daily or at least weekly, you will continue to have this problem if you do not use an additive all the time. A good additive is 2000 something???, I can't find the bottle , but buy it at our Carquest store. Follow the directions on the additive. Buying good fuel that has additives, will help too.
