Diesel Power!

Who makes a good high pressure ,high volume fuel system for a John Deere 70 diesel. Also who has a good cam grind for this application? And is there some special secret to making the head work better other then hogging it out? Just wanted to see how much Hp I could get out of one of these. Im a bit bored with gas engines at the moment and would like to see some smoke and fire.

I am NO authority on building 2-Cylinder Diesels, but..
Most say you need to use the 720 or 730 Diesel Head and Pistons..
The Injectors are larger on the 720/730 than on the 70..and Larger ones can be had..for a Price..!
Ever look in "You Tube" at the "Full-Strut" John Deeres..??
They are FINE examples of what a 2-Cylinder will do, properly set up...They have bright almost White flame out the stack...!
Usually stop with the front wheels on the dirt pile...!!

I have looked at them on U-tube, they sure do run well, maybe a little to well for just diesel. maybe a 50 hp shot of nitrous. A long long time ago I pulled 12000 NA, and one guy always could pull one gear faster than everyone else. He's gone now but I saw his setup, about 10 yrs ago, pretty slick.

I believe the "70" D uses 10 MM Pumps and the 720/730 use 13 MM Pumps and different injectors that are to be used with the 720/730 Pistons..
I know I have heard of larger Pumps being made for them..
Ask again online and I am sure you will get responses..
I saw a very nice "70" D at Plain City, Ohio a couple weeks ago..all restored and Pulling..
Sounded SO GOOD, a nice "POP" to the exhaust even from an idle..almost sounded like a Gas engine from the exhaust...
My 720 will not idle like that one..but his Pumps were just rebuilt, etc..
His didn't smoke, so the Racks must still be set close to factory settings..
I just remembered, he said he had a new better Cam in it (BIG JOB) and raised the pop pressure to 2,200 PSI..
Sure must have improved the breathing didn't smoke and didn't labor one bit..

I am really anti Green but I had these and figured I would post them

Must have been you then..!!

Yours and the one below are real Fine looking..!!

Sure hope I get mine to idle like yours..have not checked the feed pump pressure yet..

Hope to see you around again..!!

There are a couple of small things you can do with the diesels to start with.

First off I would like to say that 2 cy. diesels are so much fun to tear into and play with, I could really do it 7 days a week if I could!

Shaving off on hundred fifty thousands off of the block or head (which ever you prefer) will give I am told 8-10 hp alone. You can also bore it out .125 over, advance the timing on the pumps, open up the rack, larger injector tips, etc.

(do the above at your own risk 8) )

Really, I actually considered building a diesel puller instead of a g but I don't know how I can get rid of the weight for the classes I want to pull....

never used them but have seen them listed: www.2cylplus.com

There is also renaissance diesel and dengler. I think i would give the top one a call and see what he says.

Taking any material off the head will do nothing other than making the face of the head flat. Diesel heads have no combustion chamber, cutting them down will do nothing to gain compression.
It's possible taking that much off the block valve and piston clearance might become and issue.
Larger pump plungers and injector tips are available to deliver more power.
