diesel pump prime

On my 1850 after priming the filter and pump, I crack, loosen, the injector lines at the injectors then crank it until fuel starts to show up. Then I tighten all but one line and crank it again. This will usually start the engine. It will run a little rough but when you tighten the last injector nut down it will smooth right out. Some times if I just run out of fuel I'll prime the filter, injector pump and crack one injector line at the injector and it will usually start with a little cranking. Remember to not over do it with the cranking. Let the starter cool down for several minutes between short cranking cycles. Probably more starters killed by over cranking than anything else. PK

FYI for you Kelly. The 1850 with the CAV pump has two bleeder screws on the injection pump that should be loosened to help speed up the process. Green 77 Your Roosa Master pump does not have this feature. You need to loosen the high pressure lines.

Ya,I couldn't quite see the need to crack injector lines on an 1850. I haven't run mine out but maybe twice, but it's the easiest priming diesel I've ever seen.
