Disc blades notched or plain?

I'm replacing my front disc blades on my Ferguson Ab022 Disc and wanted to get some information as to stay with the plain blades or put notched blades on it. What is the advantage of the notched blade?

Notched blades are more aggressive in cutting corn stalks. Notches tend to "catch" the stalks, rather than roll over them.

Notched blades are most often used on small, light disks or at the other extreme, large, heavy offset disks. Most disks in between have smooth blades. The notches concentrate the weight onto a smaller area and thus increase cutting ability. But, the blades will probably wear down quicker than smooth ones will. If you have not had problems with cutting through trash and hard ground, the smooth blades would probably work. If the disk tends to ride over stuff, the notched blades could help.

I have owned a small 6ft disc with smooth disc blades.

I currently own a heavier 6 ft. disc with notched disc blades on both the front and back gangs.

Believe me, the notched disc blades will cut better than the smooth blades.

Just my 2 cents!!

A good heavy old disk does better with full blades.

A small too light disk the notched blade will get more lbs per square inch of metal & go a little deeper.

I'm not familiar with your model #, if it's a good old ag disk build tough I'd want to go with solid & put enough weight on it to make it work.
