On a "57 Ford 600 I have lost the spring clip on the top of the distributor shaft that retains and positions the ignition rotor. With out it the rotor is loose and moves about 20 degrees. Any one have an idea what will work as a replacement or where to find one. Thanks, Kirk in N. Nevada

Kirk:

The rotor clips are readily available at CNH and online. It is probably available from this site.

As Dean says common problem and NH/Ford has them as do some other places. Shoot any good tractor dealer probably stocks them. In a pinch you can use alum foil just to get by with BTDT and it did work till I got to a dealer to buy a new one

Kirk,

I lost mine not long ago and a mechanic friend of mine wrapped it with paper until I could get one. Not the best way to do things but it worked great for the time .

Thanks fellas. YT doesn't have them and suggesated the forum. After I posted I searched the archives and found a reference to ncomplete supply and I just ordered the parts.

CNH dealer has them for a whopping 7$ or so.. though masking tape made up the difference under my rotor till I got my clip from CNH on my 951.. etc..

New Holland has them for a rediculous price. But if you buy the complete tune up kit from NH, the clip is included. The kit price is fairly competitive.

I wonder what the chances are they use the same part number. I know the points hold down screw for an 8n can be had at a ford car dealer parts counter..

I counted 200 car and truck part # in the 9N parts list. The 4cy tractor engine carries many 6cy part numbers. While baling hay I noticed the Ford 640 sounds like a cat purring.Could be why Ford called it the RED TIGER.

I do like the sound of the 134cu engines.. I use my 660 as a loader tractor, and sometimes to run a pto generator.

I am not looking for the spring clips for the distributor cap, but the metal(bale clips--I think) that hold the whole distributor into the engine block by a small bolt. It is held by 2 of these, one on each side. I lost one and need to replace one. Any ideas???
