Distributor?

I just paid $951 for a repair to my tractor ('48 8N Front mount) and on the invoice is listed $239 for a distributor! I put a new electrical distributor on attempting my own repair so I don't think that is the part they replaced but what other distributor is there on an 8N that would be that expensive?

There is the distributor and there is the distributor cap. The former about $235 and the latter about $12. Maybe that is the answer. Maybe not.

Jim......you write......"I put a new electrical distributor on attempting my own repair"......surprizingly enuff, professional mechanics don't care WHAT you previously replaced. They ain't got time to double-check yer shadetree mechanicing. They replace many unnecessary parts and the customer pays......why? its called avoiding expensive "call-backs". You payed $951 for the privilege of complaining about sloppy professional mechanicing and "free" call-back servicing. Thats just the way it works. ......respectfully, Dell

I thought thats what I paid for too! I didn't mention that this was the second time they delivered it. The first time the invoice was for $681 and when they took it off the trailer it still wouldn't start, so they loaded it back up and took it back with them again. A week later delivered it again with the invoice up to $951 with no parts listed for the second repair but they did list an additional $100 pick-up and delivery fee. I don't mind paying for service but not bad service!
