Im looking for the firing order on the distributor. i know the order on the motor. which is 1342 i need to know how the order is on the distributor. where one goes and 2 and 3 and 4 goes on the distrisbutor.

Should be in this order:
2-1
4-3

If it won't start bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke. Once you're at TDC see where your rotor is pointing and install your No1
plug wire there, then No3, No4 & No2. Hal
PS: The wires go to their corresponding plug.

They're usually marked on the cap, but if not on yours' just bring the #1 cylinder up on compression and the rotor will be pointing at the #1 cylinder. Then just add the cylinders as the rotor turns.

As Hal and Bob have said, get the motor to the top of the compression stroke (any cylinder will work, but #1 is always a good reference point and is often marked ont eh cap as well). See which tower of the cap the rotor is pointing to. Assuming you're working off of #1, and attach the #1 plug to that tower. From there looking at the outside of the cap, fit them up going clock wise, 1-3-4-2. As Hal's little diagram shows, #1 is normally at about 2 o'clock as you look at the distributor from the rear of the tractor. But things happen over the years, field or screwball repairs and so on, and some of them are not. So work from TDC on #1 and let the rotor guide you. From there, it's clockwise around the outside of he cap.

Russ, I saw your email in my incoming and sent a reply in that manner first. I thought you were just looking for the firing order and where the No. 1 position is usually located on the distributor cap. Since it appears you don't know when No. 1 is on the compression stroke you will need to check that as mentioned by others and verify if the No. 1 position is at that 1:30 position I noted or elsewhere.
