Do these work?

I found one of these, and after this last snow, am beginning to wonder if a snow blower might be in my future. Do these units acomplish anything worth while, or should I hold out for one of the larger units you see with the augers across the front? I have a 4000 Ford, so not alot of HP, but this last snow was about more than I could move in a reasonable fashion even with the rear blade and loader.

thanks

I haven't owned on like that one but watched one work this winter. It appeared that if the snow conditions were just right, light fluffy stuff it would work pretty good but The guy I seen running this one was having a heck of a time with it. May as well used a shovel.

They do not like wetter snow at all, or hard drifts - it forms a bridge or wedge & doesn't make it back to the impeller. Were a lot of them made back in the day, but they sell aweful cheap these days....

They are usually a bit narrow, since they rely on sheet steel, rather than augers, to pull in the snow. That means they also leave a pile where you stop. Pretty old technology, but better than a shovel. Not worth much now.

Just replaced mine with a double auger type. Big difference. the thing I didnt like with that type of blower was it like to push more than blow, especially the wet snow. Better than a loader however. I would sell my old one cheap!! Not sure on how much power they need since I was way overpowered with a 100 horse tractor on the little thing.

Have had Arps blower for many years. They have heavy hammer type impellers and can work in some pretty tough conditions, like pounding up ice chunks, etc. In wet snow they can have some problems, but they can handle it if you take your time. I started out with a WD Allis and by useing the hand clutch it worked okay. Later I had it on bigger tractors. The added HP. was a plus, but you did want a slow reverse gear

If freight is to much for the other party please call me at 563-964-2670 as I'm somewhat close to you, and hauling costs more reasonable. I certianly do not want it if the first party wants it. Thanks NE IA

Drop me a note to nw_aggies(at)yahoo(dot)com. Can you get any pictures of the unit? Leave your phone # and I'll give you a call for more details.

thanks
