I'm looking at trading pickups this summer. I now have a 1998 Ford light-duty F250 with a 5.4 in it. It gets 15-16 MPG if I drive it sensibly with little or no load; pulling a 28 ft camper it gets 7-8 MPG. I would like to get a newer pickup with a 4-door cab and a 6.5' box. You can get a 2006 or newer Ford F150 that fits these specs, or a lot wider choice of years in a Ford Super Duty. For the amount of pulling I do I am NOT interested in a diesel (why should I pay extra for a diesel engine just for the privilege of paying 80 cents more per gallon for the fuel that goes in it?). So my question is - should I get a newer F150 with the 5.4 or a newer Dodge 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi? Or go for the Ford Super Duty/Dodge 2500 Series? I would like to hear of anyone's experience with the Dodge Hemi, both highway mileage and loaded with a trailer mileage.
