dodge pickup trans question

the last few days my 94 dodge has come up with a trick i havent seen, [ cummins and auto trans] when its real cold, and only when its cold, i dont have a 2 to 3 upshift, it works fine when its warmed up either by driving the truck slowly or letting it idle for about 10 minutes, any ideas, this trans has about 60,000 on it the truck has 200, 000 on it, the pervious trans was replaced, but the problem with it turned out to be a broken wire in the wires going to the trans, not the trans itself,[ found by a different mechanic]

change your fluid and filter for starters.
But your gonna have that somewhat with the miles your getting, I have a 93, 96 and a 2006.
The 2 older ones do that and the new one does to some extent.
If its real cold, letting it warm for 5 minutes isnt to bad an idea anyway.
But change the fluid, could have some (moisture) in it from the change out thats trying to freeze in the tranny causing it

My '02 had a similar problem, and it did happen on a cold night. First I lost 2nd into 3rd, then rapidly lost above 1st. Ended up being some nylon gear(s), but in my case, the Dodge guy warrantied it. Cummins with an auto. But, I'm thinking over the years that Chrysler tranmissions haven't been noted for durability, beyond the torqueflight 727. My '96 trans finally went at about 250K. Both cummins to auto 3/4 ton 4x4.

Good luck. Hope its something simple and inexpensive. When it gets to the auto tranny, the Haynes manual pretty much throws it hands up after the filter and recommends someone far better than me. I stink up the joint on auto.

I have a 2000 and has done that since new and they say thats normal untill they get warmed up.

Mine has done that since new, takes about a mile or two at 55 to get it warmed up enough. Make sure to check fluids and cooling lines for leaks also.

Lots of automatic transmissions when really old and worn, you can ease up on accelerator and get them to shift faster.
