dodge trucks

anybody else out there agree that dodge's are the best trucks in the world? unlike the junk chevys and fords. and whats with the dodges have bad trannys? i've got an 82 dodge ram pickup with 165,098 miles, and have never replaced the tranny and it still shifts like new., unlike the one and only chevy truck i bought over 22 years ago its tranny failed 3 months after i bought new from the dealership. so i say dodge for life. any thoughts?

Well- since you asked I will say that Dodge trucks are far and away the worst of the big three! I have had all three and the Fords are the best, the GMs are a close second and Dodges are a very distant third. I bought a brand new Dakota in '89. It had the V6. It had the performance of a 4 cyl. and the gas milage of a 8 cyl. I then bought a 91 W150. That was the worst truck I ever owned. Three transmissions in two years. I then went to my beloved Fords and have had no problems since!

well i also loved dodge trucks until i bought my 96 dakota. now i"ll never own another one. i have an 82 that i"ll keep but some dodge lover needs to come and get my dakota just so i don"t have to look at it. Probably trade it for a toyota and get a much better truck

I don't like the Ford since they put Triton engines in them. I have a 1997 F350 with a 351 Windsor, and 234,000 miles. I've seen Fords the age of mine with 350,000 miles and looking real good, except for the little dings and scratches a work truck will have. The newer Chevy and GMC are better, but more costly to buy. I just took a 1975 GMC C3500 to the junk yard. I bought it in 2001 and put 100,000 miles on it. It had a 350 and was loosing a lot of power, and using a lot of oil. The frame was rusted through in spots. While looking for parts in junk yards for that truck I was robbing similar trucks that had the chassis completely gone from beside the gas tank with only the bed holding the chassis together on that side. In the early 1970's I was driving 1953 Chevys, and in about 1975 I bought a 1966 Dodge one ton dually with Omaha grain and cattle rack. The trucy seemed overloaded when it had half a load of corn in it. I got it 3/4 full, and the front wheels were coming off the ground. It's GVW was 10,000 pounds, and it was under it's GVW. In the mid 1980's the lawn mower place I was working for as a mechanic had a 1984 Ford F250 4x4 It would push snow all over the place, and the four wheel drive was easy to use. It had an automatic. They added a 1985 Dodge 3/4 ton, and it seemed to shift at different times and didn't quite have the push the Ford had. The four wheel drive was a little more problem to shift in and out. The master cylinder went out on it after a few months of them buying the truck.

thats a loaded question, but being as im old enough to have owned every brand of truck including 2 that aint even built anymore these days i'll say this, most times any manufactures p.o.s. is the same quality as the other manufactures p.o.s. durability is due to 2 things how well the manufacture tested his designes before he put it into production, and how well its new owner takes care of it also facter in how its used , if you take a 1/2 ton rated truck and use it for a 2 ton it wont last very long, another thing to consider when talking about good trucks is that nobody has built a "good" truck in over 15 years, what we have today trying to pass for a truck is a passenger vehicle with a nice ride, plenty of cupholders, and dvd system that might go to the box store on the weekend to pick up home improvement items, if your idea of a truck is one that can haul 100 bales of hay up out of the field and not break in two doing it, you'll need to restore a older model, my '83 chevy 1 ton works like dog has no air conditioning other than 2 window cranks and a back slider window, its cup holder is a human, and it almost never breaks down ive had it since new and yes it will hold 100 bals of hay [12 foot flatbed/dump] and does so frequently as well as manure, gravel wood ect, it all depend on if you want stlye and profile or you need a truck

As for me I actually abuse a truck. If it will hold it I will haul it.The best truck by far was a 1968 chevy 1/2 ton,6 cyl,3 speed.I hauled and cut firewood in order to surive while I was raising my family.2/3 cord of oak in swamp land without 4x4.This truck and my brother in laws 70 ford preformed flawlessly for 5 years. We also hauled hay,and corn to sell to customers.I did have trouble with the un-sycronized trany,so a lot of times we would have to pull in second gear. After its use as a farm vehicle i restored it to orginal condition and drove it untill I became unemployed and lost my job
Two years ago I bought my wife a Chevrolet uplander and its by far the worst peice of junk I ever bought,Ive also owned a few Crysler products and they were good if they werent calling for rain, becaues they wouldnt start.
I think Im going to stick to Ford trucks from now on.I have concidered diesels but I cant handle the noise,100 dollar oil change and I can rebuild 3 gas motors for the price of a deisel.
PS Why does these kids today need 6in stacks on a pu 1 ton frames and 600 hp engines to haul less than a bag of grocerys

The only Good Trucks are Dodge, On My Farm Fords Are Cut For Junk.If It Aint a DODGE ITs Scrap Materal, take the tires and Junk it

I would disagree. Wife owned a dodge and after 4 tranny rebuilds it got a new home. I drove 2 dodges at the company I worked for at the time and could'nt keep a tranny in them either, and they never pulled anything from the time they were new until they were traded. The cabs were rattling loose pieces of crap. My dad has a Dodge that is the same way and all of them had good care. They were just very poor quality trucks!!

Well, I had real good luck with a Ramcharger...about 175,000 "til the body went so bad it was FUBAR...
Dad sold his "94 Ranger 4.0 with automatic to my buddy with 170,000+, buddy still going strong with it, just hit a quarter of a million and has never had the motor or the tranny opened up, and it had abuse; Dad used it to tow the smaller tractors (JD B, Super H, Super C, and the Ns) until he bought what I cinsider to be the ultimate vehicle: (gonna get one myself) Chevy 2500 HD with 6.0.
Don"t dislike Dodges...used to be a MOPAR guy until I ran into the above 2 trucks, but even if I didn"t like them, I wouldn"t be putting my IQ (or lack thereof) by calling them junk.

I got a 1955 2 ton and a 2007 Tundra. They are both good trucks. The worst I had was a 67 Ford. I guess you can get good or bad in any brand. The thing I hated about the Ford, you had to struggle to keep it between the fences. It was almost new when I took it to the wheel alighnment place. I ask the guy if he could aligh the front end. he said he could but I still wouldn't like it. He was right. That twin I beam was one of those better ideas that wasn't so better.

Forgot to mention I had a 56 Dodge 3/4 ton (I been around awhile) I had a problem with it, it had one of them big ol' V8 Chrysler engines in it. They called it a Hemi, I believe. You couldn't keep back tires on that thing.

Opinions are like @@sholes - everyone has one, and it usually stinks.

Dodge, Ford, Chevy - all the same - have at least one of each right now.

Well I am having a bad time with my 2002 Dakota V6 right now. It has about 90,000 miles on it. It would run rough, and pop on occasion. It has always been serviced by the dealer on schedule. It had about 3 02 sensors put on, then an injector, then a valve job, and finally it is in the shop and they are putting a new cam in it. They told me the lobe was scored. I am guessing bad injector led to carbon, which led to burnt valve, which led to poor fuel ignition, which led to cylinder wash, which led to less lubrication. Good thing is I don't have to pay for the new cam work.

I have 5 dodge cummins trucks, a 1993 with 925,000 miles on it it has had one trany, this truck never moves without a trailer hooked to it. like some of the other guys said, any truck will last a long time if you take care of it. But I wont have anything but a dodge!
