Does anyone here REALLY like their 435??

For me, it's not the most comfortable to operate and makes more noise than needed for the work it does. Guess I'm just used to the steady rhythm of the older 2 cylinders. Dad and I use it for brush hogging (but not all that often)He'd rather use a RED tractor with a pull hog.

Have not had mine for very long but I do like it. . . In fact I bought two (one for parts) and they seem to be one of the more popular tractors I have with the neighbors. Put a heftier muffler on it and helped the noise some. . . as far as comfort Im used to having to hop on and off the standard model tractors so the 435 with a floatride and power steering is a step up for me. If you dont like yours all that much there seem to be a lot of folks out there that would like to own one!

I enjoy mine with the JD oval muffler. Disked and planted the oat fields with it this year. Bush hogged between the trees in the orchard and along the ditch/road. Used to blow snow with a 84" blower, that made her howl. I have two or three tractor pulls planned this summer too.

I think mine is great. It is a very gutsy little tractor. I like to take it to plow days with a 2-14's 3 pt. plow. Many other guy's like to drive it also. Yes it is loud especially revved up but so what, wear ear plugs if needed. Enjoy it!!

I really don’t care for them, but they do flip some coin. Because they are the most overrated John Deere two cylinder tractors. And people think they are rare! They made over 4500 models in less than a year of production. I really don’t find that rare. But you can make some money off people who really don’t do their homework an investment. Has anyone ever asked why John Deere never followed through with a New Generation with a GM diesel? I’m sure there was a reason, just like why Oliver not in business anymore.

If all my reading/learning is correct Deere brought in the 2-53 for the 435 because they didnt want to put the money/time into designing a small diesel motor for the 430/440 tractors. They were working at a complete redesign on the New Generation tractors and it was probably just easer/cheaper to substitue in the GM motor until the New Generation machines came out in the next year.
Some folks might actually prefer a GM Diesel to the initial attempts Deere made at designing their own on the 1010/2010 tractors. . .
In fact I think the motors are very easy to run and maintain. They were a bit much for the 430 transmissions though and you could get yourself into trouble if you did not take care of your equipment.
Dont know any of this for a fact (except for the very last parts), but it is what Ive read/understood on my own.

I would agree. Even the S series 2-53 used in the 435 was better than the 1010 & 2010's diesel. The later N series pistons and the C series injectors really made the DD two stroke shine.
The HD ring and pinion for a pre 31,000 1010 will bolt right into a 435. You can't break them.
Not very many 435 around as most operators had no clue what a block heater was. And that an S series 2-53 needed pre-heating at temps below 50F.
Most 435's were ruined with ether. Or had the front axle casting busted by some doink who wrapped a tow chain around the front axle.

I personaly have never been to impressed with the 435's, but I can see the unique apeal to some. I have to agree that the 253 was better than the diesil used in 2010 and 1010, but it still wasn't much of an engine in it's as built state. The deere servive bullitens of the era have a lot of updates for oil leaks and hard starting issues. As said before with the right upgrades the 253 can have a lot of snot.

When we bought it we knew it had a problem in the rear and got it for under $1600, made the parts run to Fredricksburg, Ohio and redid the rear and finals. Tractor had been used for pulling and pushed past what it could take.

For me none of the utility number series are very comfortable for me, and I lost count of how many times I've cracked my shinbone If there was a quick need to put in the clutch.

(myself, I probably wouldn't mind that 2-53 at all if it was in a 440 dozer!)

We bought our 435 in 1961, sold it in 1986 and I located it and bought it back in 2004. I love the GM diesel and it is easy on fuel. The tractor has been upgraded with new injectors, pistons, etc and the swept back front axle has never been broken. I still use if almost every day with a 6 foot finish mower, a rotary mower for some heavier stuff, blade work, etc. It has always done everything it was asked to do!
