Does this statement apply to anybody here?

Just copied this from another site. I'm thinking that this could apply to a lot of guys.

"My biggest fear is that when I die, my wife will sell all my tools based on what she thinks I paid for them".

Thank goodness most of mine probably cost what my wife thinks I paid because they were either given to me or bought in a pawn shop.....Fortunately though her dad is also a mechanic, although he's man automotive guy and I work on heavy equipment, so she at least has some ideas to the true value of at least the most common stuff.

Worst case I know happened. Mans wife called a company with a dumpster and threw everything in his garage into it. His son almost cried. Torches, welders, compressors, and tools. Don't let it happen to you.

I will be dead and gone why would I care ?

Kinda like selling something and then complaining about what they do with it.

Never know what will happen..Back in the late 1960's, my Dad had a friend that was a gunsmith, had a nice little shop behind his house. Several lathes, a mill, and dozens of nice guns, as well as all the small tools a smith needs. The man died suddenly. The day after his funeral, his widow drug all his clothes and other possessions out and had a yard sale. She sold the entire contents of the shop for 800 dollars..

Dick, Problem is You Do Not Own a large enough Life Ins Policy!! Get a $1,000,000 K Life policy and you wife will NOT have to sell your tools. She may very well donate them to some charity and get a really large Tax Deduction after you passing!!! she gets the money tax free + a tax break on the income from your last yr of life. What More do you want? LOL!

Fellow bought an expensive hand gun, told his wife it was used and he paid 60 dollars for it .She tried the gun and liked so much she wanted one just like it.She went to the gun shop and told the owner she wanted a gun like her husband just bought for 60.00.Gun smith sold her a new gun, marked the slip, used 60.00.After she left gunsmith called her husband and said Doc your wife just bought a gun just like yours, you owe me 400.00.

I hear ya, I just love those 25 cent snap on ratchets at yard sales.

Just write down the price of each large item and place in a envelope and give it to her. Only so she woun't sell you model 12 for 50 dollars. If the 60 dollars story applies to you so be it.

Wifes usually with me when I buy something, not alot of extra $ between us. She remembers better than I what I paid for stuff. Sometimes she likes to even out the tab with jewery......

I think I could trash all the surgers, sewing machines, Longaberger baskets, German china, piano's, organs, and sheet music that my old lady has accumulated.

My wife refers to all the stuf in my shop as junk. I tell her that if something happens to me to have an auction sale and see what that junk brings.

My wife and myself have a pact..When we're too old to go on, We'll shoot each other...I'll shoot her first , then she can shoot me...Sounds fair enough to me....

25 cents? Where are you at? You pick them up for that, and I'll give you 50 cents, deal? Holy cow, I've never been to a yard sale before. Do I need training or anything? Man, count me in. Wow!!!

I bought 35 lb of 6011 welding rod for 2 dollars and a chain breaking tool for 50 cents that sells for 50.00 new.Saw a welder at another sale for 100.00 that had 400.00 worth of sealed can electrodes included.I would have bot it and resold the welder and kept the rod but didnt have the cash.A friend stopped a pile of stuff on trash day and found a 50lb can of 7018 rod.

A variation on a theme... I hope the guy my wife meets after I'm gone takes as good care of my stuff as i did!

That statement would apply to my wife and me. But... it's not because I've lied about what I've spent. It's because she has no interest in the stuff, thus has no idea of it's worth. I remember discussing the value of my 10" 3hp Delta Unisaw in case she had a garage sale after my passing. (Think I paid over $1200 many years ago.) She thought it was worth about $100. Friend heard about this and made her promise to call him first!!

She doesn't understand why I would spend over $150 on a tool that you can buy elsewhere for under $50 (based on the Father Day circulars for tools from Sears, Harbor Freight, Home Depot, etc.).

Same thing applies to us men. I don't understand how a purse can cost over $400 and why they would need more than one!!! (heck, I've got ONE wallet). You'll get a roll of the eyes and "Duh, you need at least a black and brown one!". Same goes for jewelry and other stuff.

Ask a lot of guys what they'd do with their wive's teacup collection after they're gone. :)
