Draft control plunger/bolt.

I wanted to replace the draft control boot. No biggie, right? Hah.

Anyway, I got it out. Getting it apart is another matter. I have a impact screwdriver but the bit isn't big enough to work in this. I have an old screwdriver that fits it really well but I'm not having any luck in a vice with a pipe wrench. I have a propane torch and I heated it up.

I figure my options are welding a nut on the bottom of the plunger and using an impact gun. I could grind this back off I guess. Cutting it in half with a band saw and using a pip wrench to remove the bolt after removing the spring from the cut off plunger, or cutting the old screwdriver I have(It is missing it's old wood handle and stuff anyway) and welding it or grinding it to fit a impact socket and just going to town.

I see I can order a new plunger/bolt for $20 or so.

Am I missing anything here?

What tractor are you working on?

Sorry, Massey 35. I forgot I wasn't on a MF35 specific forum.

I cut the bolt in half. Sawzall made real quick work of it. Looks like I need a new yoke too. I don't think that bolt was ever going to come out unless it was liquid. It looks like it was maybe bent down over time.

You don't happen to know if the pieces on the yoke that press out are reusable, do you?

I just wasn't sure if I needed to order a set so I just pressed them out to see and they came out looking in great shape still.
