Draft Control

As far as I know, when the lever on my '48 8N is set to "draft control" I should be able to lift the implement for transport. I can't. To lift the implement I have to put it in "position control" The position control works great though. Can anyone give me advice as to what the problem might be?

Draft control is used for plowing & other tillage equipment, not just for transporting equipment on the lift. But, you should be able to raise & lower the lift arms equally as well in draft or position mode.

Start by trying to adjust the quadrant adjustment. If that doesn't work, the problem is under the lift cover; either it's out of adjustment or you have a worn cam follower pin, or both. Try thr quadrant adjustment; if that doesn't work, post back & lots of folks can help you w/ getting the lift cover off, etc.

Zane is the expert here so maybe he will comment on your problem. However, a worn cam follower pin should only affect position control. The main control spring may be not adjusted correctly or there may be a problem with the draft linkage levers.

Thanks all. I moved the quadrant control mounting flange back just a hair and now both the position control and draft control work. The position control works nicely over the entire control's sweep. When in "draft control" the arms lift just before the quadrant lever hits the top of it's sweep. As always, I appreciate the input.

I had the same issue a few months ago. It was the quadrant adjustment - see 151 in the FO-4 manual and photographs FO135-137. If you have time, I'd get a "Zane Thang" as I will next go around. I got lucky and it was a simple adjustment. Afterward, I recalled that a rope had been looped around the quadrant and a tight turn got the rope caught in the implement, twisting the control lever and quadrant. I was able to fix the metal reasonably well, but it obviously pulled the quadrant out of adjustment. Another lesson learned about ropes...
