drain cleaner

Does anyone know of a good drain cleaner?? It's for the milk house drains. I use a main line cleaner now that works good ,but it would be nice to have something that would eat the old milk fat out of the drain. My Dad told me that his father (my grandfather) once bought a powder that you put down the drain and it would smoke and bouble and it worked great. He said that it claimed it would eat up a tire if it was put on one.

Why are you pouring milk down the drain at $3.50 gallon I would find something else to do with it. Hogs come to mind.

Sulphuric acid used to be the active ingredient in working drain cleaners. Must be outlawed by gov.(again)

Sodium Hydroxide is what your looking for.Brand name of RED DEVIL LYE is most commen. Works great.

Farm price of whole milk is nowhere near $3.50 per gallon. Farm price of $20 per cwt is about $1.66 per gallon. Normal flushing of equipment, bulk tank, etc,- it is diluted, not raw milk, but milk components still can cause problems in the drainage system. Mixing sulphuric acid and water is asking for an explosion, causing skin burns, eye damage, etc. I had a sump under the milk house floor, pumped all waste into the pit, via the manure pump. No clogs, no freeze-ups, no drainage field problems.

You can still get sulphuric acid drain cleaner at any good hardware store, and it works better than sodium hydroxide. Just make sure that you don't mix it with sodium hydroxide or they'll explode.

Do you have an automatic cleaner for your milk pipe lines? The acid wash should take care of the drains as well as the pipeline. I've never had a clogged drain in my milk house, and I figure it's because of the acid wash.

I was looking for "Draino" but my farm supply
store had "Drain Out", appears to by the same
stuff, really works good, foams and bubbles in the drain after water is added. Protect your
eyes and skin!!!
