I have put E-85 in my 860 and proceded to do some earth work with the loader and blade, 4 hours so far. What MIGHT happen that can't be fixed. Ok fellas (and gals),I"m ready to be chewed from top to bottom, LOL If and when something should accure, I'm ready to pay the consequences. E-85 was $2.43, ethanol 10% blend was $2.89 I guess time will tell!!

I have used e-85 in all my vehicles since 1975.
Dozens. All good news. I love this stuff.
also love bio deisel since 1992.Zero negatives.
However, alcohol is a nice solvent, and may show defects in your fuel system. It WILL NOT hurt your motor. It helps in every way.
alcohol was a motor fuel long before I was born.

by the way, ALL tractors have hard valve seats, and do NOT need lead nor any substitute. High grade oil and some alcohol is all you ever need

First, you can buy un-taxed fuel for farm use.

Second, for the same output, the E85 should be priced at about $2.10/gal.

You can't get its full potential unless you raise your compression ratio to about 14 to 1. And who knows what that does to everything. Los Angeles bus system tried it in their diesels. You can read about it.

One approach I've heard of is injecting it into the airstream after the diesel engine's intake filter. Maybe a decompressed Detroit Diesel with glo plugs, like a model airplane engine.
ethanol in diesel engines

Glad to here your positive comments on ethanol. At least a few of our fuel dollars will stay here in the USA
I think only the exhaust valve seats are hardened in any Ford tractor that I have. 641 860 960 and 2 5000's. The intake valve seats are ground into the cast iron head.

E-85 is a blend of 15% gasoline and 85% ethanol. Ethanol is a alcohol made from (mostly corn right now)and is available in the corn belt. You have to look for it. I don't think it is available in all states yet

E85 has less energy per gallon than reg gas. You need to add more fuel from the carberator to make up for that.

You may have to change the soft fuel lines to new material (if you have any in your tractor). Other than that, you should be good to go.

Oh, timing can probably be more aggressive as ethanol is more ping resistant than normal gas.

Here in Michigan (Flint and Lapeer areas) All Meijer stations have it. runs about $2.60 a gal. Been using it in the work truck. all good sofar, was getting about 250 miles with reg gas, 200 miles with E85. Per tank.
