I attached a electric fence charger wire around the base of one of my trees. The coons are going up and eating my fruit. If the coon gets past the base and is up in the tree, if he touches the wire will he still get a shock without being on the ground? I would get of the ground and try it, but I have been hit too many times by accident, and don't like it. Stan

You might try a live trap with cat food. I have moved or removed 40 over the last 2 years. Game wardon said it was ok as long as I didn't kill them

Unless it is very dry, the coon should still ground through the trunk.

I removed 57 coons one year at the farm using live traps and cat food bait.Funny thing though, I had to tranquilize each one so I could let them out of the cage, I used Remington SuperX tranquillizers.

Make a platform in the tree and put a pan of flybait and Pepsi on the platform. They love the stuff. Jim

I bought a little marlin 60 just for that same tranquilizing task. It worked real well. The hard part was digging them a new burrow about 4 feet down. Coons are burrowing creatures aren't they?

My game warden told me to just put them down. They didn't want them relocated to be someone else's pest.

Couple years back I had a terrible problem with coons tearing into buildings and killing poultry and rabbits. Found out a guy around the corner had started an animal removal business and was releasing them on his property. We had a talk and the problem stopped. Careful you don't get your britches full of rock salt when you drop them coons off!

Same here, but I usually use a 5mm sheridan air gun.
less noise and chance of damaging anything else.

I am planning on rigging a video camera to watch a metal bowl or catfood on rubber with metal under it. 220 fed thru lightbulb wired to the bowl and sheet metal with a remote relay to turn it on and off from inside where I will watch the video feed.

As a lover of the universe and all that's in it, I should certainly be outraged by the mean spirited posts above. However, racoons and possums aren't included in my branch of PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals), so I guess I don't care.

Put two strands of wire around the trunk on spool insulators. Place one wire about a foot off the ground, and 1.5 to 2" away from the tree. and the other about 4" above that one on the same type standoffs. Use a chunk of steel rod, or a fence post for a ground rod, and connect it to the bottom wire. Connect the charger, And Toast!!! JimN
