Electrical problem Help!

I have a JD 60 with a positive ground system. The tractor does not have any power to the switch or coil. The hot wire goes from the battery to one side of the amp gauge. The other side of the amp gauge goes to the regulator. I have no power coming back from the regulator. When you take and jump from the hot wire to the Ign pole on the switch the amp gauge pegs to the negative side. I'm not real familiar with the older deeres and especially ones with regulators and generators. Any help is appreciated!

If its a 3 terminal (BAT ARM FLD) Voltage Regulator, the hot battery voltage to feed lights and ignition etc is taken off the LOAD (NOT battery/starter) side of the ammeter, the same terminal that wires down to the BAT terminal on the Voltage Regulator. If you had a 4 terminal (BAT FLD LOAD ARM) VR, then its LOAD terminal is what comes back up to the dash to feed lights and ignition switches INSTEAD of their being fed off the same ammeter that wires to BAT on the VR as on the 3 terminal VR system.

The light and ignition switch needs to obviously get hot battery voltage on its input from somewhere and its EITHER the ammeter (3 terminal VR) or the VR's LOAD terminal (4 terminal VR)

Heres a wiring diagram showing the 3 terminal VR system although some tractors got changed over, 3 to 4 or 4 to 3 and EITEHR can still be made to work. Look at your wiring and this diagram n see if you can figure her out...

I"ve been curious as to the function of the BROWN wire between the + of the ignition coil and the ignition switch. Awhile back I made a note to myself in my copy of this SM-2029 electrical manual that says:

Does the BROWN wire from the + side of the ignition coil to the ignition switch "MAG" terminal provide a ground to the coil output when the ignition switch is off so that the tractor can"t be accidently started (youngsters playing or oldsters not thinking, etc.) via the ignition resistor bypass?

I own a late model 50 and it doesn"t have that BROWN wire. Your reprint here on the web isn"t clear enough to see the letters printed on the back of the ignition switch, but in the actual manual the letters "MAG" show plainly.
