Electrical Wiring Manual

Lately I have taken quite an interest in electrical wiring (of buildings, etc). However, I have limited knowledge in this area. I would like a manual/reference book which speaks to codes, wire size requirements, the wiring of motors, basic circuitry, and various charts and tables, etc.

Given my rather limited knowledge, the book would need to be rather "reader friendly", while still containing valuable technical information. The typical "Home Depot" homeowner's electrical wiring books are inadequate.

What book do you recommend?

Look for books authored by HP Richter and Creighton Schwan. Both are now dead, as far as I know, but their writing on the subject is as good as it gets for the beginner or occasional electrician.

I've got some original German print ones from them. Have a little trouble with the text here and there, but have almost rewired the whole place over the last few years by looking at the pictures.

I do some training in electrical/electronics areas and find really good books hard to come by. However, Wiring Simplified by Richter is pretty good at the more basic level. (Available at building supply centers). For more advanced, check out American Technical Publishers website at Go2atp.com. Gary Rockis is a good author for more industrial areas, and I see he now co-authors a building wiring book series. The NEC code book is also available, but it is not good to just learn from. Also,consider short classes your community college might offer.

You might want to take a look at this. Handy little reference to most basic info. Most large hardware stores carry it as well as Amazon dot com.
The NEC is worthless as a self teaching manual. Takes a course in how to decyhper it to use it. I know , I just took the course a couple years ago.
If you do not know Anything about electricity take a course at a community college or possibly on line. It is worth the time and money.
