I'm rebuilding the engine for a super 88 diesel.I found cracks between the three center cylinders. Is the block junk or can it be repared and used? K.W.

I recently rebuilt my Super 88 and found cracks in the same area. The piston liners and head torque will seal all fluids in this area. I showed pictures of these cracks to local machine shop who has rebuilt tractor engines for the last 50 years and he agreed. My super 88 is used as a stationary power plant at my sawmill. The engine runs 6-8 hours a day with no problems. Good luck.

Lots of wet sleeved engine blocks will have those cracks after real running hot because of lack of water. If the cracks open up slightly they can be brought back together with a (tie) bolt.

I took pictures as I repaired an Allis block several years back to show it could be done with a few hand tools at home. Not an idea of mine as it has been done many many years.
