Engine oil viscosity

Thanks for the info. I recently purchased a MF50, disc and plow to use around my 3 acre garden. I was told to use SAE20 for most of the year but to switch to SAE30 if the weather was really hot. It seems to me that most older tractors used SAE30 weight. Any input would be appreciated. This is my first mf tractor

I use 30 in my diesel but I don't use it when it's cold. All my other motors get 10-30 all year around and I haven't had any troubles yet.

You didn't say gas or diesel? If diesel use a good 15W40 like Shell Rotella 15W40, Chevron Delo 15W40, or Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40. If gas use good 10W30 or a good 15W40. Tom

If it were me, I"d use 10W30 or 10W40 oils. it will make for easier starts in the winter and provide proper lubrication in warm weather without requiring an oil changes when the weather warms up.

It's best to keep it simple, instead of worryinh about having the proper oil- or not changing it when you should to a different weight because "I'll only be using it for 3 hours"...

We run 15w-40 in everything, year round, no problems.

Use Caution! If you move from a non-detergent to a detergent oil, you may have oil flow problems. The detergent oil will move old deposits and it may seal small holes used for oil flow. I use SAE30 or SAE40 on my TEA20. If you completely rebuild your engine, you can use 10W30 or 10W40.... never mix.
