I live in Fort Worth, TX area and have not found some one to vat or acid dip the block and head on my JD 50, everyone I call said they stopped doing this because of EPA. I have also not found a machine shop that can bore the engine for me. Any recommendation would be much appreciated. Thanks Kevin

If you want to clean your block and head look up electrolysis. This system will clean your block and head to bare metal in two weeks.Get plastic
55 gallon barrel.Cut top out leaving about one inch remaing.Make a grid connecting 4 pieces of
rebar to fit in barrel upright.I laid a 2x4 across top of barrel.Bolt block or head to chain.Let block or head dangle from 2x4.Next fill
barrell three quarters full of tap water.Add 2or
three cups of arm and hammer wash soap.Hook battery cable + to grid and - chain.Use 10amp or larger charger.More is better.Leave charger on two weeks.Head or block will look as new.

I took the cylinder off of my "A" to an auto
engine rebuilder in Durant,OK and asked about
vatting, they said they could heat it in an oven
and shotpeen it for $45. It looked like new
metal, except where it had rusted thru the water
jacket.

Just had the cylinders and head done in a 48 Model
B I’m restoring at a local auto machine shop down
here in Spring, TX. All he needed was the new
pistons and rings to get measurements from. There
was enough good bearing left in my mains and rods
for him to polish the crank and resize the
bearings. He cleaned the heads and did a valve
job. Saved me a bunch. Looks good. I’m still
putting things together so I don’t know how if
will run but I’m betting, ‘Like New’.

Good luck.
