Ever Use a McCormick Model 42 Combine?

I have a Model 42 Combine that my dad bought and we never used it. I wouldn't mind getting it operational again, but I was wondering how well they perform.

My dad had a 76 IH combine, it was OK except for the canvas feeder. He used it with later 2 cyl JDs with the creeper first so you could really go slow in bad conditions.

Is it a 42R? Dad had one of those. Quietest combine I ever heard. All you could hear was the knives cutting the straw. Tiny little machine, but did a nice job. I remember when he got a 52R. That one seemed huge compared to the 42. The neighbor who hauled my Gleaner K2 home from a YT guy's place bought a 42R from him while we were there.

I think the 42R has the grain bin, right?. This is a 42 with a bagger shoot and platform.

Dad's had a bagger, ya. It was a 42R. He made a bin out of a refrigerator liner that had a sliding door on the bottom so it was just gravity flow unload. He only cut here at home with it and would bring it up to the barn and unload in to a wash tub with the auger stuck in it.

Surprised the C had trouble. As a teenager, the local Massey dealer brought out a new 7 ft pto combine (dont know the model, but it was the successor to our 7 ft Clipper) with Farmall C (might have been a Super C) to demo it. I presume the C pulled the combine fine. I had never seen a C before and was fascinated by the tiny Farmall. Neighbor bought the combine and pulled it with an H. I became quite adept at speed shifting the H from 3rd to 2nd when the wheat got thicker. Fun times. Often wish I was back there.

I’m looking for a 42R and found one about a days drive away but it needs new canvases among other things. Trying to find out how much a new set of canvases would cost but I need the dimensions for them. Would anyone here have that information?

The R means rasp bar cylinder, The 42 is a 42 Inch cut and is same machine as the 52 except the platform is10 inches wider on the 52. And Dad pulled a 42 (too young to know difference in rasp bar and spike tooth cylinder) with a 44 Ford 2N for a few years until he got a AC 60 with engine. Then he sold the IHC 42 and the person that picked it up did it with a AC B tractor.
